Shingle Options for Harrah Roofs
Compare architectural, three-tab and impact-resistant shingles with the roof system around them.
Choose Shingles for the Whole Roof
A shingle choice brings appearance, construction and tested performance together. The installation beneath it determines how that product works on the roof.
Product construction
Three-tab and architectural describe different shingle construction and appearance.
Tested performance
An impact rating is test evidence. It does not promise a damage-free installed roof.
Architectural, Three-Tab and Impact-Resistant Shingles
The product category is a starting point. Its actual specifications and installation instructions control.
| Shingle option | What it describes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Three-tab | A flatter repeating profile formed from cut tabs in a shingle strip. | A universal service life or suitability for every roof. |
| Architectural | Laminated layers create a dimensional profile. Different products have their own construction and ratings. | A guarantee against storm damage simply from the category name. |
| Impact-resistant | A product tested to a named impact standard or performance program. | A hail-proof roof or an automatic insurance discount. |
The IBHS impact-resistant shingle ratings provide product-specific testing context. Test programs and standards should be read at their actual scope.
Shingle Performance Comes From Connected Details
Shingles rely on the system around them. Starter courses support the edges, fasteners hold the covering to the base, cap shingles close the ridges and hips, and flashings direct water around walls and penetrations.
Underlayment provides a secondary water-control layer. The roof slope and selected product affect its requirements. Attic ventilation needs a workable intake and exhaust path appropriate to the assembly.
Choosing a stronger or more expensive shingle does not repair a deteriorated deck or a poorly connected flashing detail. Those items belong in the installation scope alongside the visible material.

Shingle Option FAQs
Is Class 4 the same as a damage-free roof?
No. A laboratory rating describes performance in its test conditions. An installed roof remains exposed to impacts, attachment conditions and real weather that differ from the test.
Will impact-resistant shingles reduce my premium?
Some insurers offer discounts for eligible products, but the policy, insurer and product determine any benefit. No reduction is automatic.
Can I choose a different shingle during replacement?
Yes, material selection is part of the replacement discussion. The product needs to suit the roof and any applicable property requirements. Colors are best considered on the actual product, alongside the house exterior.
